Last night (she said . . . Dammit, I hate getting that line in my head because it reminds me how The Strokes ripped off Lust for Life in that song), I was lucky enough to be 24.8% of the "One Dark Evening" event, held at the ever-stalwart, very-many-stepped LES KGB bar.
John C. Foster read from a work-in-progress so good, it made me pissed he hadn't finished it yet-- I'm starting Dead Men now so I can dig right into the 2nd installment when it come out!
I read "The Inconsolable Key Company", a story that can be found in my book YES TRESPASSING.
J. Daniel Stone next read a truly riveting piece from his forthcoming book of short stories that made me pissed I'm not J. Daniel Stone.
John F.D. Taff, who is big in Japan as well as every other country on earth, brought his own heart and gut-rending voice to the podium with a new piece, that made me pissed that I was so pissed by that point I missed the subtleties.
Among the buddies that came to hang were Josh Malerman and his better 56%, new friends and old, and just a great crowd altogether. I'm hoping we can all do this again sometime.
Below are some pictures, from various sources, that I've managed to scavenge. Now enjoy, Mon Voyeurs!
